Wolfgang Vater studied at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Performance engagements have taken him to Frankfurt, Mannheim, the Oper Bonn, Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, the Karlsruhe State Theatre, Dortmund, Essen, Bremen, as well as Paris, Genoa, and Metz. He was a permanent ensemble member at the Hessian State Theatre of Wiesbaden from 1991 to 2015. Besides his work as singer, he is also a sought-after presenter and speaker. For the State Theatre, he adapted Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" and the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" for children, and also worked on the radio drama "Der Hund der Baskerville" in cooperation with the Hessian Rundfunk. Other stage performances in Wiesbaden include Voltaire/Pangloss/Martin in Bernstein's "Candide", Countess de la Roche's Servant "Die Soldaten" and as narrator and presenter for various concerts. During 2016/17, he performed Benoît and Alcindoro in "La Bohème", as well as Antonio in "Le nozze di Figaro". In 2017/18, he reprised his role in "La Bohème" and was also on stage in the new production "Manon". During the 2018/12 season he appeared in the revival of "Candide" and also sang Hans Foltz in a new production of "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg". He returned to Wiesbaden in 2020/21 as Antonio in a new production of Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro", as well as Benoît and Alcindoro in the revival of »La Bohème«.
