Die Küste Utopias: Schiffbruch
The Coast of Utopia: Shipwreck
By Tom Stoppard
Performed in German, in a version by Wolf Christian Schröder
In "Shipwreck", the ideas of young Russian revolutionaries such as Mikhail Bakunin and Alexander Herzen are put to the test; in addition, their own private life plans must be reconsidered. Stoppard skilfully weaves an intricate web of private stories and actual "history". The focus is on the philosopher and publicist Alexander Herzen, who lives in exile in Paris, and the bloody suppression of the February Revolution of 1848.
