Jessica Karge

Jessica Karge was born in Berlin. After an apprenticeship as theatre tailor at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, she assisted at the Burgtheater Vienna, the Salzburg Festival and the Schaubühne Berlin. In 1992 she began to present her own work, often in collaboration with director Uwe Eric Laufenberg, as well as for productions at the the Schauspiel Köln and Zürcher Schauspielhaus. She was head costume designer at the Maxim Gorki Theatre Berlin and also worked at the Deutsches Theater and the Komische Oper. She subsequently turned more towards opera, designing costumes for "Ariadne auf Naxos" (La Monnaie Brussels), "Der Rosenkavalier" and "Lady Macbeth von Mrzensk" (Semperoper Dresden). International engagements have taken her to Barcelona, Strasbourg, Tel Aviv and, in 2016, to the Bayreuth Festival for "Parsifal" with Uwe Eric Laufenberg and Gisbert Jäkel. In Wiesbaden, her work has included the dramas "Hier bin ich" "Floh im Ohr", "Nora" and "Antigone" as well as the opera "Otello".
