Rolf Glittenberg has worked at the major theatres, opera houses and festivals in Europe for many years, with directors like Peter Mussbach, George Tabori, Johannes Schaaf, Dieter Giesing, Werner Duggelin, Luc Bondy, as well as conductors like Sir Georg Solti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christoph von Dohnanyi and Silvain Cambreling. His most noteworthy operatic productions include "Der ferne Klank" at the Vienna State Opera (directed by Jürgen Flimm), "Così fan tutte" and "Le Nozze di Figaro" in Amsterdam, "Fidelio" in Zurich, "Pelléas et Mélisande" in Brussels, "Macbeth" at the Edinburgh Festival, as well as "Die Zauberflöte", "Die Frau ohne Schatten" and "L'lncoronazione di Poppea" at the Salzburg Festival. His work at the Zurich Opera House include "Der Rosenkavalier", "Die tote Stadt", "Pelléas et Mélisande", "Così fan tutte", "Le Nozze di Figaro" and "Don Giovanni" (Franz Welser-Möst / Sven-Eric Bechtolf), "Elektra" (Dohnányi / Martin Kušej), "Die Zauberflöte" and "Genoveva" (Harnoncourt / Kušej). Further productions at the Vienna State Opera include "Il Trittico"and "Andrea Chénier" (directed by Otto Schenk), "Der Ring des Nibelungen", "Cardillac" (Welser-Möst / Bechtolf) and »Elektra« (directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg). Previous projects in Wiesbaden include stage and costumes for "Peter Grimes" and "Tannhäuser", as well as the stage designs for "La clemenza di Tito", "Idomeneo", "Don Carlo", "Pique Dame", Tristan und Isolde", "Il trovatore", "Der Club" and "Der zerbrochne Krug".

In the 2023/24 season, Glittenberg will design the sets for Shakespeare's "The Tempest" (Der Sturm), Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte", Verdi's "Falstaff" and Schnitzler's "Komödie der Worte".
