Born in Bad Homburg in 1960, Tilo Nest studied acting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since 1986, he has worked at Schauspielhaus Bochum, Theater Essen, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspielhaus Zürich and Theater Basel. Guest engagements soon followed at Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Berliner Ensemble, among others. From 2009 to 2015 he was a member of the permanent ensemble at the Vienna Burgtheater. In 2017/2018, he became a member of the Berliner Ensemble. He made his cinematic debut in Peter Sehr's 1993 movie "Kaspar Hauser". Since then he has worked repeatedly for film and television, playing, for example, Hauptkommissar Brandt in the RTL series "Post Mortem" in 2007/2008 and in various episodes of "Tatort". Musically, Tilo Nest has toured for years alongside Hanno Friedrich and Alexander Paeffgen as "ABBA jetzt!", as well as with his own music programmes. In December 2003 he received the Best Actor Award at the New York IFCT Festival. In 2012 and 2013 he directed Alan Ayckbourn's "Schöne Bescherungen" and Ibsen's "Nora" for the first time in Wuppertal. Previous productions in Wiesbaden include "Der ideale Ehemann", "Shockheaded Peter" and "Tyll", the latter for which he received a 202 FAUST nomination. In 2020/2021, he makes his opera directing debut with "Il barbiere di Siviglia" at the Wiesbaden State Theatre.
