Magdalena Weingut read Theatre Studies in Munich. After her formative years at the Landestheater Niederbayern in Passau, the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, the Regensburg Theatre and the State Opera Munich, she was engaged as Assistant Director in Regensburg in 2007. She was Assistant Director for Opera at the State Theatre of Wiesbaden from 2012 to 2016, where she worked on productions like “Die Frau ohne Schatten”, “Candide”, “Orfeo ed Euridice”, "Die Soldaten", the operatic double bill “The Human Voice” (“La Voix Humaine”) / “Bluebeard’s Castle”, as well as restaging “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, "Der fliegende Holländer" and “Lohengrin”. She also re-staged "Elektra" with Catherine Foster in the title role, and worked at the 2016 and 2017 Bayreuth Festival with Uwe Eric Laufenberg on his new production "Parsifal". She has been working as a freelance director since 2016, with engagements taking her to the Hanns-Otto-Theater Potsdam, Staatstheater Darmstadt and the Opéra de Bastille in Paris. She regularly returns to Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where has since re-staged "Alcina", "Cosí fan tutte" and Die Entführung aus dem Serail", and directed "Madama Butterfly" and "Die sieben Todsünden". This season, she returns as revival director for "Manon", "Peter Grimes" and "Elektra".
