Johannes Martin Kränzle

Johannes Martin Kränzle studied music theatre directing in Hamburg and singing in Frankfurt. He has appeared worldwide in Wagner roles including Alberich (the Ring Cycle) at the Berlin State Opera, Milan's La Scala, the BBC Proms in London and the Lucerne Festival, as well as  Klingsor ("Parsifal") at Teatro Real in Madrid. In 2014 he sang Grjasnoj ("The Tsar's Bride") in Milan. He has performed at the festivals in Salzburg, Bregenz, Glyndebourne and San Francisco. He has been a member of the solo ensemble at the Frankfurt Oper since 1998, with appearances in roles such as Papageno ("Die Zauberflöte"), Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso ("Così fan tutte"), Paolo Albiani ("Simon Boccanegra"), Giovanni Morone ("Palestrina"), Dandini ("La Cenerentola"), Prus ("The Makropulos Affair"), and Gloster (Reimann's "Lear"). In Cologne, he performed Andrej in "War and Peace", Beckmesser in "Meistersinger von Nürnberg" and Bluebeard. In 2011, he was named Singer of the Year by Opernwelt Magazine, was nominated for the Faust Prize in 2010, and won the 2011 Cologne Opera Prize. Johannes Martin Kränzle is guest professor at the Cologne College of Music, as well as at the Brazilian University of Rio Grande do Norte in Natal.  He sang Gunther in "Götterdämmerung" during the 2017/18 Wiesbaden season and returned to the stage in 2018/19 as Bluebeard in the revival of "Bluebeard's Castle". In addition, he sang Beckmesser in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" at the 2019 International May Festival. This season, he graces the stage as Papageno in "Die Zauberflöte".
