Michelle Ryan

Michelle Ryan is the recipient of the German-Australian Opera Grant for 2020/21. Her first roles in Wiesbaden included included Musetta ("La Bohème"), Barbarina ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Berta ("Il barbiere di Siviglia"), Waldvogel ("Siegfried"), Helmwige ("Die Walküre"), Aksinja ("Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District") and The Soul ("Babylon" by Jörg Widmann). She studied at the Sydney Conservatory of Music and later continued her training at private opera academies in Weimar and Berlin. Her repertoire includes roles such as Depina ("Così fan tutte"), Clorinda ("La Cenerentola"), Frasquita ("Carmen"), Zerbinetta (Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos") and Zerlina (in a production of "Don Giovanni" at the Prague Summer Nights Festival). She sang Adele in "Die Fledermaus" with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra (as part of the Cuskelly School of Music Summer Program) and Suor Genioveffa (in Puccini's "Suor Angelica") at the Australian Pacific Opera. In 2019, she was a finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Competition and has won several prizes in the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Foundation Bel Canto Award competition. This season, she will grace the Wiesbaden stage as Die Seele in "Babylon", Masha in "Pique Dame", Sophie in "Werther", as well as Zerlina ("Don Giovanni") and Maidservant ("Elektra"),
