Almas Svilpa

Almas Svilpa studied singing in his hometown of Klaipeda in Lithuania, as well as in Vilnius and Zurich. He was engaged by the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in 1996, followed by the Aalto-Theater Essen in 1997, where his roles included the Dutchman ("Der fliegende Holländer"), Jochanaan ("Salome"), Kaspar ("Der Freischütz"), Escamillo ("Carmen"), Orest ("Elektra"), Leporello ("Don Giovanni"), Zaccaria ("Nabucco"), Wotan/Wanderer ("Der Ring des Nibelungen"), Figaro ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Klingsor ("Parsifal"), Heinrich der Vogler ("Lohengrin") and Sparafucile ("Rigoletto").

Further engagements have taken him to opera houses in Hanover, Munich, Saarbrücken, Cologne, Vilnius, Berlin, Moscow, as well as the Vienna Volksoper and the Salzburg Festival. He has appeared as Wotan and Holländer at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Theater St. Gallen, as Nabucco at the Vlaamse Opera, as Zaccaria at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and as Tierbändiger/Athlet ("Lulu") at the Vienna State Opera, Semperoper Dresden and the Royal Theatre Copenhagen. He appeared with the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra under Kazushi Ono in Zemlinsky's "Lyric Symphony", as well as Wotan ("Die Walküre"). He also made his debut as the Policeman ("Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk") at the Opéra de Lyon, where he returned in 2016.2017 as the Inquisitor / Heinrich ("The Fiery Angel"). During the same season, he sang Scarpia ("Tosca") in Vilnius.

Recent roles include Leporello and Filippo II ("Don Carlo") in Essen and Méphistophélès ("Faust") in Vilnius. He made his Wiesbaden debut in 2022 as Tomski in "Pique Dame".
