British-American mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker began her career as a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competition, and has since sung dramatic Wagner roles such as Fricka, Erda, Brangäne, Venus and Ortrud. Her much heralded interpretations further range from Amneris in “Aida”, the title role in “Carmen” to Serena in “Porgy and Bess” and Nen-Nen in Dominique Legendre’s “The Bird of Night”. Guest engagements have taken her to many of the world’s greatest venues in London, Munich, Salzburg, Berlin and Rome, among others. In Wiesbaden, she is known for her celebrated performances as Ortrud (“Lohengrin”), Amme (“Die Frau ohne Schatten”), Stolzius’ Mother ("Die Soldaten"), Auntie ("Peter Grime"), her song recital "Sing Sistah Sing!" (2016 International May Festival), as well as Kader in Søren Nils Eichberg's new opera "Schönerland", Ulrica in Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera" and Herodias in "Salome". This season, she returns to Wiesbaden as Euphrat in "Babyon".
