Beka Savić

Stage Director
Beka Savić hails from Serbia and studied Dramatic Writing and Dramaturgy at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade. Already during her studies she started working as Assistant Director and Dramaturg at Serbia’s leading opera houses and theatres. She was Assistant Director at Cologne Opera from 2011 to 2014, where she has also led the children’s opera division since 2013/2014. At Cologne Opera she worked with directors such as Uwe Eric Laufenberg, Dietrich Hilsdorf and Tatjana Gürbaca, and made her debut in the children’s opera with her staging of Stravinsky’s “Le Rossignol”. Beka Savić is also active as playwright and scriptwriter and two of her plays have enjoyed premieres in Serbia. Short films for which she acted as scriptwriter have been invited to film festivals in Serbia, the USA, Armenia, Spain, Mexico, Italy and Germany (Max Ophüls prize), where they have garnered numerous prizes. Beka Savić was engaged as Assistant Director at the Wiesbaden State Theatre from 2014 to 2017. Here, she assisted on and revived a myriad of productions, including "Le Nozze di Figaro", "Tosca" and "Don Pasquale", and also worked alongside Uwe Eric Laufenberg on all four operas in the "Ring" project. During the 2015/16 season, she directed her own work, namely the new production of "Hänsel und Gretel" and the play "Jane Eyre", followed by "Terror", "Römische Trilogie" and "Der Idiot". In 2018, her new production of Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera" opened the International May Festival. This was followed by a new production of the musical "My Fair Lady". Beka Savić became Artistic Production Manager at Theater für Niedersachsen in 2020/21, where she will also direct Ludger Vollmer's opera "Gegen die Wand".
