In opera, the dramatic, the sad and the comical often become intertwined. It is precisely this thought that Puccini may have had in mind when, at the turn of the century, he created his "Il trittico", an evening consisting of three one-act operas, each serving a separate genre: drama ("Il tabarro"), touching melodrama ("Suor Angelica") and comedy ("Gianni Schicchi").
