With her extravagant concert appearances, sparkling coloratura fireworks, dazzling top notes and death-defying tempi, Simone Kermes has earned herself quite a reputation as the "crazy queen of Baroque opera".

"Inferno e Paradiso", somewhere between hell and paradise, is where the Echo Classic prize-winner spans the arc of this exiting programme. Modern mortal sins - arrogance, greed, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, sloth - are contrasted with old virtues such as humility, charity, chastity, patience, moderation, benevolence and courage. Baroque music opens up a broad spectrum of possibilities, thoughts, fantasies and sound options in which these contrasts are magically illuminated. Energies and emotions unleash a roller coaster of emotions, ultimately uniting in the unconditional love of music.

This event not only marks Simone Kermes's debut at the International May Festival, but also the premiere performance of "Inferno e Paradiso". Thereafter, the production moves on to concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie, Tonhalle Düsseldorf and Die Glocke in Bremen.
