Timo Riihonen

Finnish bass Timo Riihonen was born in Mikkeli in 1983 and studied singing at the Sibelius Academy. He was a member of the International Opera Studio at Zurich Opera during the 2008/09 season and has won numerous awards, including the 2007 Matti Salminen Scholarship. He was an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 2009 to 2013, subsequently joining the ensemble of Theater Kiel from 2013 to 2018. Guest engagements have taken him to La Scala in Milan, the Berlin State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Bayreuth Festival. Previous roles in Wiesbaden include Fasolt ("Das Rheingold"), Sarastro ("Die Zauberflöte"), Gremin ("Eugene Onegin"), Daland ("Der fliegende Holländer"), Heinrich der Vogler ("Lohengrin"), Philippe II and Grand Inquisitor ("Don Carlo"), as well as Baron Ochs ("Der Rosenkavalier").
