With its grand design, the marimba is truly the grand dame of the percussion family. In this concert, Edzard Locher (Hessian State Orchestra, Wiesbaden) and his quartet colleagues Martin Barth (Berlin Staatskapelle), Se-Mi Hwang (HfMDK Mannheim) and Thomas Varga (Freiburg Philharmonic) bring no less than four of these impressive instruments onto stage. The have one special mission: Mozart as we know him but have never heard him before!

The programme includes faithful arrangements of Mozart's Sonata for Two Pianos, K. 448, as well as the Concerto for Flute and Harp, K. 299. Furthermore, soprano Katharina Heißenhuber will perform a selection of Mozart songs, while Mainz concertmaster Julia Ungureanu will play the contemplative Sonata in E minor. They are supported by Leonhard Dering at the piano, who makes his debut as soloist with the Hessian State Orchestra next season.
