Lena Belkina

Mezzo-soprano Lena Belkina was born in the Crimean Peninsula and studied singing at the famous Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev, as well as the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University in Leipzig. She became a member of the Opera Leipzig ensemble at the age of 21, after which she moved to the Vienna State Opera for two years. She has since become an internationally sought-after artist who engages audiences from Vienna to Jerusalem and Monte Carlo to Tokyo with her unique voice. Important roles have included Olga ("Eugene Onegin") at Oper Leipzig, Palau de les Arts Valencia, Bologna, Malmö and Limoges, as well as Adalgisa ("Norma") at the Ukrainian National Opera in Kiev. She sang Tchaikovsky's "Moscow Cantata" at the Trans-Siberian Art Festival in Novosibirsk and in 2017 and 2018 she will sing Bizet's Carmen at the Bregenz Festival. Furthermore, the mezzo-soprano shines with Rossini roles such as Rosina ("Il barbiere di Siviglia"), Angelina ("La Cenerentola") and Elena ("La donna del lago"). During the 2018/19 season, she made her debut at Theater an der Wien in Handel's "Teseo" and also returned to the same theatre as Johanna in Tchaikovsky's "Maid of Orleans". In addition, she made her Wiesbaden debut as Ruggiero in Handel's "Alcina". After singing the title role in the 2018/19 production of Uwe Eric Laufenberg's "Carmen", she now returns to the Wiebaden stage as Princess Eboli in "Don Carlos".
