Philipp Pointner

Born in Vienna, Philipp Pointner studied conducting, vocal coaching and composition at the Konservatorium-Privatuniversität in Vienna, as well as at Vienna's College of Music and Performing Arts. He was assistant for Sir Roger Norrington and Christian Thielemann, and also held engagements as guest conductor at Cape Town Opera in South Africa from 1994 onwards. In addition, he also appeared at the Johannesburg Civic Centre and at the renowned Grahamstown Arts Festival. In addition to a busy concert schedule, his career has taken him to various important venues in the German-speaking theatre world, including Hamburg, Cologne, Mannheim, Braunschweig, Bern, Vienna (Volksoper), Innsbruck and Graz. He was first Kapellmeister at the Nuremberg State Theatre until 2013 and has been a regular guest conductor at the Royal Ballet of Flanders in Antwerp since 2015. He conducted "Der Rosenkavalier"and "Der fliegende Holländer" at the Flemish Opera, "Die Zauberflöte" in Vienna, "I puritani" at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava and "Hänsel und Gretel" at the Hamburg State Opera. Previous appearances in Wiesbaden include "Bluebeard's Castle" / "The Seven Deadly Sins", as well as "Katya Kabanova". He returns to Wiesbaden in 2022/23 to conduct a new production of "Rusalka".
