Daniela Kerck

Deniela Kerck studied Stage Design at the Academy of Fine arts in Vienna as a student of Erich Wonder. She received the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Culture's appreciation award for her diploma thesis "Every Room is the Centre of the World". Following her graduation, she worked as an assistant and collaborator with Erich Wonder at the Zurich Opera House, at the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, at the State Operas in Berlin and Munich, at La Scala in Milan under the direction of Peter Mussbach and Luc Bondy, and as an assistant director to Johannes Schaaf at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera and at the Aalto Theatre in Essen. Daniela Kerck has realised stage designs at the National Opera in Riga, the Schauspielhaus Wien, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid and Theater Luzern, among others. From 2014 - 2017, she studied music theatre direction at the University of Music in Karlsruhe with Prof. Andrea Raabe and Prof. Stephan Mösch, as well as attending master classes with Peter Konwitschny and Tatjana Gürbaca. She was a scholarship holder in Monique Wakemarkers' directing workshop at De Niederlande Opera and was a semi-finalist of the RingAward'15 for her interpretation of "Freischütz". She won first prize in the the European Opera Directing Award Competition for the opera "Rusalka", which was staged in Riga. In 2019 she staged the opera "Aida" at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl.

Previous productions in Wiesbaden include the plays "Admissions" by Joshua Harmon, "The Minutes" by Tracy Letts and Jörg Widmann's opera "Babylon" as part of the 2022 International May Fesival. In 2022/23 she directs a new production of Dvořák's "Rusalka" (alongside Olesya Golovneva), as well as the world premiere of Søren Nils Eichberg's opera "Oryx and Crake", based on the novel by Margaret Atwood.
