Alongside Elektra, Turandot and Isolde, British soprano Catherine Foster is known throughout the world for her interpretation of Brünnhilde, a role which she has sung many years in succession at the Bayreuth Festival. She has performed on international stages in cities such as Hamburg, Berlin, Tokyo, Washington DC, Budapest, Amsterdam and Barcelona. After completing her studies in 1999, Foster's career took off in 2001 in Weimar, where she soon became known for her interpretation of dramatic roles. Guest engagements at other important opera houses soon followed, and in 2006 she made her debut at the Semperoper Dresden. Her development was rapid, from her first role as Queen of the Night to singing Brünnhilde in Wagner's "Ring" in the summer of 2008. Frank Castorf's 2013 production at the Bayreuth Festival marks one of the pinnacles of her career. Catherine Foster has worked with conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Marek Janowski, Adam Fisher, Philip Auguin, Simone Young, Sir Donald Runnicles and Daniel Barenboim. In 2014, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire bestowed an Honorary Fellowship upon her and in 2018, she received the Reginald Goodall Prize from the London Wagner Society in recognition of her Wagner interpretations. During the 2019/20 season, she makes her debut in "Die Frau ohne Schatten" at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and sings her first opera performance in the UK in 20 years, in the title role of "Elektra" with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Kirill Karabits. In addition, she will make guest appearances as Isolde, Turandot and Elektra in Bologna and Sofia, as well as at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Cologne Opera. This season, Catherine Foster returns to Wiesbaden in the new production of "Tristan und Isolde" as well as the revival of "Elektra".
