Lucas Herrmann studied Theatre and Media Studies as well as History of Contemporary German Literature in Erlangen. He completed his doctorate on the documentation of theatre rehearsals in Hildesheim. A research visit took him to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he studied Asian dance and theatre. He later completed his Dramaturgy studies at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatsschauspiel Hannover and Thalia Theater Hamburg. He worked closely with Bulgarian director Dimiter Gotscheff for many years, also documenting his productions for the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. During the 2017/18 season Lucas Herrmann was Dramaturg for press and public relations at the Nanine Linning Dance Company / Theater Heidelberg. Here, he supervised the youth dance piece »Trans Lucent« by Gary Joplin, which was invited to the 2018 Youth Dance Meet at the Berliner Festspiele. He has developed and co-created documentary theatre, performance and installation projects – most recently a three-part cycle on the theme of the Angstgesellschaft in the summer of 2019 with music theatre director Levin Handschuh in Bremen. Herrmann is also active as an author of theatre texts and in the field of experimental short film. He joined the Hessian State Ballet as Dramaturg at the beginning of the 2019/20 season.
