Oliver Zwarg

Bass-baritone Oliver Zwarg studied in Stuttgart and began his career as freelancer in the Hamburg State Opera studio and the Hannover State Opera ensemble. He has guested at the State Theatres of Darmstadt and Mainz, at Cologne Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, Stuttgart State Opera, as well as abroad in Shanghai, at the Vienna and Salzburg Festivals, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, at the Edinburgh and Lucerne Festivals, as well as at the opera houses in Barcelona, Lausanne, Riga and Strasbourg. He has worked with directors such as Calixto Bieito, Stefan Herheim, Peter Konwitschny and Jossi Wieler. His central roles include Orest ("Elektra"), Klingsor ("Parsifal"), Wotan and Alberich (Wagner's "Ring"), the title role in "Wozzeck", Scarpia ("Tosca") and Jago ("Otello"). In 2015, he made his debut at the Semperoper in Dresden as Golaud in "Pelléas et Mélisande", and later as Kaspar in "Der Freischütz" in Copenhagen. This was followed by "Moses und Aaron" at Teatro Real Madrid in 2016 and Fritz Kothner in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" at the Munich Opera Festival. Recently, he has sung the Forester in "The Cunning Little Vixen" in Strasbourg and Dikoj in "Katya Kabanova" in Turin. Previous roles in Wiesbaden include Telramund  ("Lohengrin"), Barak ("Die Frau ohne Schatten"), and the title role in "Der fliegende Holländer". This season, he makes his debut as Hans Sachs in the new production of "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg".
