Pumeza Matshikiza

Born in South Africa, Pumeza Matshikiza studied at the South African College of Music (Univerity of Cape Town) and at the Royal College of Music in London. She received master classes from Philip Langridge, Kiri Te Kanawa, Thomas Allen and Renata Scotto. As a member of the Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, she made her debut as the Blumenmädchen in "Parsifal" and sang roles such as Tebaldo ("Don Carlos) and Witch in "Dido and Aeneas". In 2010, she won first prize at the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition. She regularly appears in song recitals with pianists such as Julius Drake and recorded her first solo almbum, "Voice of Hope", in 2014. Pumeza Matshikiza was an ensemble member at Stuttgart Opera from 2011 to 2016, where she appeared in roles such as Änchen ("Der Freischütz"), Susanna ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Isis ("Der Schaum der Tage"), Mimì ("La bohème") and Micaëla ("Carmen"). During the 2016/17 season, she will perform Serena in "Porgy and Bess" at La Scala in Milan, and will once again take the stage as Micaëla in Stuttgart. She makes her Wiesbaden debut as Mimì in "La Bohème".
