Ryan McKinny

American bass-baritone Ryan McKinny made his Carnegie Hall debut while still a student at the Juilliard School of Music. He won the Birgit Nilsson Prize at the Operalia Competition, was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and represented the USA at the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. He made his debut at the New York Met in 2013 as Theseus (Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream") and sang Biterolf in the Met's film production of "Tannhäuser" under James Levine. Ryan McKinny regularly appears as guest at all the big opera houses of Europe. He made his debut at English National Opera as Tiridate in "Radamisto" and sang Escamillo ("Carmen") at the Dresden Semperoper and the Hamburg State Opera. In Hamburg, he also sang the Dutchman in "Der fliegende Holländer". He sang Peter ("Hänsel und Gretel"), Escamillo and Kurnewal ("Tristan und Isolde") at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as appearing as bass soloist in Verdi's Requiem. He sang Herkules in Peter Konwitschny's new production of "Alceste" at Oper Leipzig and Amfortas ("Parsifal") in Düsseldorf. He made his Bayreuth debut in 2016 in Uwe Eric Laufenberg's new production, and also returned in 2017. This season, Ryan McKinny graces the stage of the Wiesbaden State Theatre to sing Mandryka in "Arabella".
