Matthew Laszlo von Pokorny

Matthew Laszlo von Pokorny was born in England and grew up in Wales. He now lives in Germany, having moved in 2015. He discovered his passion for the theatre and music whilst at school, during which time he was a member of various theatre and music ensembles. Since living in Germany he has received classical vocal training, and as a member of the vocal ensemble “L’arte del Canto” gave numerous concerts featuring music from a range of genres including opera, operetta, Italian canzoni, chansons, German schlager, musicals and film.

From 2020 until 2023 he was a regular performer at Megalomania Theater in Frankfurt, singing/playing roles such as Candide in Leonard Bernstein’s operetta of the same name, Daphnis/Saphir in Jacques Offenbach’s operetta “Blue Beard”, Loge/Mime in the abridged version of Wagner’s ring-cycle, as well as Mr Peachum and Andrea in Bertold Brecht’s “The Threepenny Opera” and “Life of Galileo”, respectively.

In 2022 he could also be seen performing in his mother-tongue in Shakespeare’s play “As you like it” with Shakespeare Frankfurt as well as in Gilbert & Sullivan’s English operetta “Pirates of Penzance” at the University of music and performing arts in Frankfurt.

At the beginning of 2024 he performed the role of Skimbleshanks in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Cats” with the musical ensemble Musical Tomorrow in the Rhine-Main region.

Since 2024 he has been a member of the Youth State Musical at the Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden, making his debut in October this year as Antonio in the musical-adaption of Shakespeare’s play “Twelfth Night”.
