"Ivanov" is the first play from the pen of world-famous dramatist Anton Chekhov. As with most of his later works, the central theme revolves around human life in all of its absurdity, its ridiculousness, sadness and irresistibility. Ivanov symbolises the reluctance and inability to take control of one's own life, and the fact that he has an attractive and erotic effect on those around him makes him one of the most exciting characters of classical drama.

John Simons, Artistic Director of Schauspielhaus Bochum, directs this acclaimed production, with prize-winning actor Jens Harzer in the title role.
