Justus Zeyen

Born in Kiel, Justus Zeyen first took piano lessons with Cord Garben and later studied in Hanover with Karl Engel and Bernhard Ebert, among others. He has appeared as soloist, chamber musician and lieder accompanist throughout Europe, the USA and Japan, performing with Juliane Banse, Dorothea Röschmann, Diana Damrau, Measha Brueggergosman, Florian Boesch, Siegfried Lorenz, Michael Schade, and the choirs of the Bavarian, Central and South German Radio.

Lieder recitals include performances at Milan's La Scala, Theater an der Wien, at the festivals in Munich, Bad Kissingen and Schleswig-Holstein, at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, Tanglewood, the Tokyo Spring Festival und the Oregon Bach Festival. Since their first concert together at the Lockenhaus Kammermusikfest in 1994, Justus Zeyen has worked closely with Thomas Quasthoff, with performances in the Berlin Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall in London, at the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, as well as in Madrid, Barcelona, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles and Carnegie Hall New York.

Recent concerts include appearances with Christiane Karg, Florian Boesch, Michael Schade, Manuel Walser and Thomas Quasthoff at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, in Graz, Oxford, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Madrid and at the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt.

Many of his CD recordings have been awarded prizes, such as the Echo Klassik, Cannes Award, the German Record Critics' Prize, as well as being awarded for the Grammy Award.

Justus Zeyen is on the teaching faculty of the Hannover Music Academy.
