Monika Bohinec

Hailing from Slovenian, Monika Bohinec studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Vienna Academy of Performing Arts. As a student, she garnered prizes in various competitions and was a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Foundation and the Hilde Zadek Foundation. She made her operatic debut in 2006 as Clarissa ("The Love for Three Oranges") at the Slovenian State Opera. During the seasons 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 she was an ensemble member at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and joined the Vienna State Opera in the 2011/2012 season. There, her roles included Eboli ("Don Carlos"), Sara ("Roberto Devereux"), Fenena ("Nabucco"), Mrs. Quickly ("Falstaff"), Ulrica ("Ein Maskenball"), Suzuki ("Madama Butterfly"), Ježibaba, Fremde Fürstin ("Rusalka") and Auntie ("Peter Grimes"). Guest engagements have taken her to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Frankfurt Opera, the Munich Theater am Gärtnerplatz, Ljubljana and the Mörbisch Lake Festival. She made her debut at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden during the 2015/2016 season as Marina ("Boris Godunov") and now returns to sing Ulrica at the 2019 International May Festival.
