2016/2017

New season schedule released
The new 2016/2017 season schedule was presented by Intendant Uwe Eric Laufenberg in the Wiesbaden State Theatre's beautiful foyer today. "This season, six separate season booklets reflect the theatre's great diversity", he said. These freshly printed booklets - five for each of the theatre's divisions and a separate service booklet - contain an extensive programme with many highlights, including Wagner's vast Ring Cycle.

Bookings for the 2016 International May Festival now open
The queues started early this morning already, with some loyal theatregoers waiting from as early as 06:00 to secure the best seats for the highlights of the 2016 International may Festival. The Box Office doors opened at 09:00 sharp.

The programme of the 2016 International May Festival (Maifestspiele) was revealed at a press conference on 10 February 2016 in the Großes Haus Foyer. The Wiesbaden State Theatre will once again open its doors to “welcome the world to Wiesbaden” for an exciting festival programme, jam-packed with world-renowned singers, celebrated drama ensembles and first-rate dance companies, featuring no less than 50 performances.

Due to popular demand, the Geschwister Pfister return to the Großes Haus on 11 December with their show "Wie wär's, wie wär's – Geschwister Pfister in Tuscany". In addition, Andreja Schneider (aka Fräulein Schneider) will be playing the role of Mrs. Peachum in Die Dreigroschenoper on 22 and 28 December and, of course, the whole trio is still on stage in the operetta Der Graf von Luxemburg until March 2016.

Hessian State Ballet's first magazine

Looking back on a successful opening season
In his editorial to the first issue of the new magazine, ballet director Tim Plegge describes the newly-established Hessian State Ballet's first season journey as "a launch pad from which we simply sky-rocketed". The publication is jam-packed with visuals from the company's own productions and guest performances, as well as an introduction to the artists-in-residence, choreographers and an overview of the new season's productions. Download or browse the magazine online, by following one of the links below.

This year’s opening event, our annual Theatre Festival, was a resounding success, with a total of 4,146 tickets sold for the various productions programmed in the upcoming season. Apart from the Christmas production “Das doppelte Lottchen”, the bestsellers of the day were Wagner’s “Der fliegende Holländer”, Uwe Eric Laufenberg’s new production of “Otello”, the first ballet of the season, “Weltenwanderer”, the new Youth State Musical production “Zwei hoffnungslos verdorbene Schurken”, as well as the operetta “Der Graf von Luxemburg”, the new production of “Hänsel und Gretel” and the play “Buddenbrooks”.

We are delighted that around 8,000 visitors came to the theatre to find out more about our upcoming productions and to take a peek behind the scenes.
