There is a new shining star in Berlin and her name is Katharine Mehrling. Whether performing at the Bar jeder Vernunft or the Komische Oper, she has the city is at her feet. Oliver Reese, director of the Berlin Ensemble, has certainly achieved a coup by luring Mehrling to his theatre to sing - what else - Bertolt Brecht! Together with BE actor Paul Herwig and four musicians, she gives Brecht songs by Hanns Eisler and others a completely new lease of life. The result is a musical narrative of the poet's life, dealing with the development of an artistic personality, the difficulties of love, war, exile and returning home - as well as death and the relationship between the author and posterity.
