All one really needs to know about "Cotton Fields" is that ist stars Hollywood actor John Malkovich! His co-star is the award-winning Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė, and together the two world-class actors set the stage ablaze in Bernard-Marie Koltès' famous (yet rarely performed) 1985 play "In the Solitude of the Cotton Fields". The young Russian director Timofey Kulyabin, whose work has already caused a sensation both nationally and internationally, directs this atmospheric two-person play.

A trader and a customer meet in an unnamed place (the cotton fields) and negotiate the terms of an exchange of goods. They verbally feel each other out, measuring and checking the other party and the value of the unspecified goods. It remains to be seen whether a transaction will ultimately take place.

"Koltès' text is dense, wordy, full of allusions, poetic images and complex surprises. (...) Our production is about sexual perversion, about a hidden desire that is punishable in the eyes of society. We are in the subconscious, in the nightmare of a person who is not on stage. He experiences a terrible inner turmoil because he realises that his sexual desire is forbidden, but he can't fight it. So he invents two versions of himself, the seller and the buyer, who fight each other. The actors change roles during the performance. In addition to the actors, there are five video artists (online) who create spectacular effects and images". (Timofey Kulyabin)
