Giacomo Puccini (1858 – 1924)
Melodrama in three acts
Sung in Italian, with surtitles in German and English.

Premiere: 1900 in Rome
The Italian opera classic as a gripping thriller: singer Floria Tosca and her lover, the artist Mario Cavaradossi, are caught in the crossfire of police violence, political intrigue and deceit. To mark the 125th anniversary of the opera, director José Cortés takes a close look at the familiar material and exposes the depths of human nature. The title role is sung by Sinéad Campbell Wallace, who in recent years has conquered major stages from Paris to Toronto as Tosca.
