Les pêcheurs de perles
The Pearl Fishers
Georges Bizet (1838 – 1875)
Opera in three acts
Sung in French, with surtitles in German and English.
Libretto by Michel Carré and Eugène Cormon
Premiere: 1863 in Paris
A production by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Opéra National de Lille and Les Théatres de la Ville de Luxembourg
After sold-out performances in Belgium, Luxembourg and France, the acclaimed production by the FC Bergman theatre collective is coming to Wiesbaden! In a clever twist, the exotic coastal landscape of Ceylon's pearl fishermen is transformed into a retirement home. Memories of adventure, jealousy and love crash like waves into the dull everyday existence of the home and become blurred. Bizet's spell-binding music is performed by an extraordinary cast: Elena Tsallagova, one of the most exciting sopranos of her generation, has enjoyed success from Salzburg to Berlin; Belgian tenor Marc Laho as Nadir and Kartal Karagedik as Zurga are in international demand for the Italian and French repertoire.
