Mario Cassi

Italian baritone Mario Cassi is internationally in demand for his interpretation of bel canto roles, with an extensive repertoire from Mozart to contemporary opera. Recent performances include Guglielmo ("Così fan tutte") in Dresden, Figaro ("Il Barbiere di Siviglia") at the Arena di Verona, in Parma and Beijing, as well as Count Almaviva ("Le nozze di Figaro") in Dresden, Beijing and Liège. He has sung Marcello ("La Bohème") in Tokyo, Malatesta ("Don Pasquale") in Düsseldorf and Sharpless ("Madama Butterfly") at the Arena di Verona and in Liège. Other important roles include Belcore in "L'elisir d'amore" (Tbilisi, Florence and at the Vienna State Opera), Don Giovanni (Cologne) and Germont in "La Traviata" (Arezzo Raro Festival). He appeared in "La Bohème" and "Rigoletto" at Milan's La Scala, as well as in Mercadante's "I due Figaro" at the Salzburg Festival.

Cassi made his operatic debut in 2001 in the roles of Guglielmo and Signor Lupo ("Pollicino" by Henze) under the musical direction of Claire Gibault. In the following years, he won prizes at numerous important singing competitions, including "Toti Dal Monte" (2002), "Viotti" (2002), Placido Domingo "Operalia" (2003) and Spiros Argiris (2004). His career then took him to Teatro la Fenice ("La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein"), Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris ("L'Enfant et les sortilèges") and Ravenna with a production of "Don Pasquale", which was recorded on DVD and went on tour to Moscow, Liège, Cologne and Paris under the musical direction of Riccardo Muti.

Mario Cassi graces the Wiesbaden stage as Figaro in "Il barbiere di Siviglia" at the 2021 International May Festival.
