A new wind is blowing in Thebes: King Pentheus has issued in a new progressive social order founded on justice and freedom. When Dionysus and his female entourage, the Bacchae, invade Thebes, a fierce battle ensues. All attempts to restore the order are lost when Pentheusʼ mother Agave also falls under Dionysus’ spell.
Known for successful productions such as Dürrenmatt’ "Romulus der Große" and Camusʼ "Die Pest", Sebastian Sommer now returns to Wiesbaden to bring an imposing new version of this classic work – complete with chorus and live music – to the stage.
