Imagine a world in which you cannot make any progress, no matter how hard you try. The seven dancers of VerTeDance stand in a line, rooted to the spot. Every attempt they make to escape is hopeless. Their bodies sway from left to right, from right to left, in sync, like a human pendulum.
In "Correction" the dancers move in apparent contradiction: while never leaving their places, their bodies glide freely in space. At first as a reflex and then with increasing control, they bend down, tip and fall onto the floor of the stage, and every loss of balance is immediately balanced out again.
The theatre director Jiří Havelka uses spectacle and subtle humour to show that freedom can also be associated with loss. At the same time, the choreography makes it evident that lacking the freedom to make decisions can also lead to consolation, relief, intimacy and surrender – and sometimes even to pleasure.
