What does it mean to form one’s own identity? One that is sufficiently strong to avoid the usual templates and images, and define itself independently and autonomously – one that you have chosen for yourself? Even before our consciousness is fully formed, we are categorised and judged on the basis of external features and pre-conceptions. And that continues as long as we live, with the body playing a key role.

The solo "HOME" analyses and visualises the search for identity as the piece examines the complex dual identity of the body: on the one hand, it communicates with the outside world through its appearance and movements. On the other, it is the location that the self is connected to: a “home” that contains a unique, constantly changing life functioning on many levels.

The queer artist and choreographer Sebastian Abarbanell places the body in relation to numerous objects. Wooden blocks form a pedestal for display but also a protective space. Complex types of movement emerge that reveal, highlight or conceal the body.

"HOME" inspires new thinking about the images of human life that are deeply rooted in society and places potential queer identities alongside them.
