Die Küste Utopias
The Coast of Utopia | Part 1: Voyage
By Tom Stoppard
Performed in German, in a version by Wolf Christian Schröder
Sir Tom Stoppard - "the poet of thought", according to Daniel Kehlmann - focuses on the 19th century Russian intelligentsia in his astute and witty trilogy "The Coast of Utopia". With the two Russian thinkers and revolutionaries Mikhail Alexandrovich Bakunin and Alexander Ivanovich Herzen, Stoppard's humorous conversation piece brings pre-Russian Revolution history to the stage. After making her successful directing debut with "Der fröhliche Weinberg", Henriette Hörnigk returns to Wiesbaden to stage "Aufbruch" (original English title: Voyage), the first part of the trilogy.
Following "The Hard Probem", the Hessian State Theatre now presents Stoppard's next German-language premiere with "Die Küste Utopias (Erster Teil: Aufbruch)", and will complete the trilogy in the coming seasons.
