Vladislav Sulimsky

Russian baritone Vladislav Sulimsky is one of the most sough-after performers of his generation, having enjoyed successes at competitions such as the Rimsky-Korsakov Competition in St. Petersburg and the Giacomo Lauri-Volpi Competition in Italy. In 2009, his recording of Shostakovich's opera "The Nose" was nominated for a Grammy Award. He has been an ensemble member at the Mariinsky Theatre since 2004, where his roles include Eugen Onegin, Posa in "Don Carlo", Andrej Bolkonski ("War and Peace"), Ford ("Falstaff"), Il Conte di Luna ("Il Trovatore"), Enrico ("Lucia di Lammermoor") and Belcore in "L‘Elisir d‘amore", amongst others. His international engagements began with Miller in "Luisa Miller" in Malmö, followed by Renato in "Un ballo in maschera" in Stockholm. In 2014, he made his debut as Posa at the Baden-Baden Festival, followed by Macbeth in Basel in 2015. In addition, he performed alongside Anna Netrebko in "Iolanta" as part of a European tour. During 2015/16, he sang "Simone Boccanegra" under Valery Gergiev and made his debut at the Edinburgh Festival as Alberich in "Das Rheingold". In 2016/16, he debuted as Tomski ("Pique Dame") at the Stuttgart Opera, a role which he also sang in Salburg under Mariss Jansons in 2018. In the same year, he also appeared as Don Carlo ("La forza del destino") in Basel. In 2018/19, he made his debut at the Berlin Staatsoper (as Conte di Luna), as well as Iago in a new "Otello" production at the Vienna State Oper. He made is debut in Wiesbaden in 2017 as Renato in "Un ballo in maschera" and subsequently also sang Rigoletto here. This season, he returns to Wiesbaden as Giorgio Germont in "La Traviata" at the 2021 International May Festival.
