Kai Kluge

Tenor Kai Kluge gained his first stage experience with the Aurelius Boys' Choir in Calw and studied singing with Friedemann Röhlig at the Karlsruhe Academy of Music. He is a prize winner of the international music competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" in Graz, as well as the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg Competition. In addition, he won first prize at the 2014 Baden-Baden Opera Academy Competition. During the 2015/16 season, he was a member of the Staatstheater Karlsruhe opera studio, where he made his debut as Pedrillo ("Die Entführung aus dem Serail"), Tamino and Monostatos ("Die Zauberflöte"), Basilio ("Le nozze di Figaro") and the first Mandarin ("Drachensöhne und Feentöchter"). Kluge has received master classes from Regina Werner-Dietrich, Roberto Sacca, Thomas Hampson and Christa Ludwig, among others. He recently made a guest appearance as Tamino at the Basel Theatre. In 2016 and 2017, he was a member of the Stuttgart State Opera's international opera studio and became a full-time ensemble member in the 2017/18 season. Here, important roles include Alfredo ("La traviata"), Tamino ("Die Zauberflöte"), Prince ("Die Liebe zu drei Orangen"), Alfred ("Die Fledermaus"), Singer ("Der Rosenkavalier") and Ariel (scenes from Goethe's "Faust"). In 2023 and 2024, he will once again appear as Nemorino ("L'elisir d'amore"), the Duke of Mantua ("Rigoletto"), as well as Jim Mahoney in the new production of "Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny" at the Stuttgart State Opera.
