Eleni Calenos

Greek soprano Eleni Calenos initially studied cello in Greece and later continued her singing studies at Queens College New York. She was a member of Boston University Opera from 2006 to 2008. Her repertoire includes roles such as Countess ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Donna Elvira ("Don Giovanni"), Giorgetta ("Il tabarro"), the title roles in "Madama Butterfly" and "Tosca", Mimì ("La Bohème"), Desdemona ("Otello"), Micaëla ("Carmen") and Antonia ("Les Contes d’Hoffmann"). She has performed in American opera houses such as the Autin Lyric and Palm Beach Opera, for Opera Idahoe, the Utah Festival Opera and at the Phoenicia International Festival. In 2010, Eleni Calenos won the Gerda Lissner Foundation Award and in 2009, she was the recipient of the Judges Award at the Connecticut Opera Guild Competition. She was a finalist in the Oratorio Society NY Competition (2010), the Renata Tebaldi International Vocal Competition in San Marino (2009) and the Concurso del Canto de Bilbao (2008). This season, she makes her German debut at the Wiesbaden State Theatre as Saida in Søren Nils Eichberg's new opera "Schönerland".
