Uwe Kraus was born in 1960 in Plauen (Vogtland) and studied acting at Babelsberg's "Konrad Wolf" Academy of Film and Television. Following first engagements in Altenburg and Lutherstadt Eisleben, he moved to the Landestheater Schwaben in Memmingen in 1992, received the Young Talent prize at the Bayerische Theatertage one year later, after which he performed at Theater Ulm. He was engaged at Theater Osnabrück from 1997 to 2005, where his roles included Tellheim in "Minna von Barnhelm", "Hamlet", "Woyzeck" and Alceste in "Ein Menschenfeind". Here, he also directed numerous productions. Uwe Kraus became a permanent member of Staatstheater Wiesbaden's drama ensemble, where his roles have since included the Earl of Leicester in "Mary Stuart", Mephisto in "Faust 1 and 2" and Peachum in "The Threepenny Opera". He appeared as narrator in Angela Denoke's song recital ("Wir Städtebewohner / Wenn ich mir was wünschen dürfte") at the Salzburg Festival in 2015 and at the Vienna State Opera in 2016. Television appearances include Robert Schumann in "Worte sind Töne" and in "Johannes Brahms – Einsam aber frei!" (director: Jürgen Czwienk).
